SANFORD exacted revenge for their cup defeat by edging out AFC Bradford 1-0 in the Wiltshire Premier on Saturday.
Les Gill’s men were beaten 3-2 in the Corsham Print Senior KO Cup quarter-finals last month but the tables were turned this time out, with Brad Gill heading home the all-important goal in the second half.
The result means Sanford are now three points clear of Bradford at the top of the table.
Boss Gill said: “Every player played their part on a very difficult pitch to get the ball down and play football.
“We started extremely well, fought for everything and continued to win our individual battles all over the park.
“AFC Bradford are a very good side who, like us, compete for everything, but we were more than well-prepared for this one.
“I have nothing but praise for how the lads gave everything for 90 minutes and remained disciplined in every respect. Their willingness to get the all-important three points were second to none.
“No doubt we have many more tough games over the coming weeks but this result was without doubt, very special for the club.”
Elsewhere in the division, Chippenham Youth kept the pressure on the top two with a crushing 4-1 win at Southbrook, while Wilts Calne Town suffered a shock 5-0 defeat at home at the hands of Blyskawica.
Moredon and Vale of Pewsey shared a 1-1 draw and Wroughton picked up a useful 3-1 victory at home to Ludgershall Sports.
In Division One, with league leaders Box Rovers not in action, Madames closed the gap at the top to a still sizeable 11 points.
They achieved this by winning 4-2 at Sanford Reserves, while Chippenham Youth Reserves sunk Wilton Town 2-1 and rock-bottom Marlborough Town Reserves lost out 3-2 at home to Marshfield.
Three of our local sides were in cup action, with Marlborough Town being knocked out of the Corsham Print Senior KO Cup at the quarter-final stage.
They were defeated 2-1 at Amesbury Town, while in the Fountain Trophies Junior KO Cup semis, Wroughton hosted Old Town Wanderers.
It was the latter side that prevailed, edging to a 2-1 win to book their place in the final.
