Highworth Town are closing in on the Wiltshire County Women’s & Girl’s League title after a 6-0 home win over Larkhill Athletic.
In their previous game, Highworth had to claw their way back from 3-1 down to beat Melksham 4-3 and keep their 100 per cent record intact.
They had no such problem this week, though, as they grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck from the start, with Shannon Pedder setting up five of her side’s goals.
Five minutes into the game Morgan Whitaker won the ball from a Larkhill throw and placed an inch perfect pass into the path of Becka Ash, who slotted the ball into the back of the net.
Whitaker got on the scoresheet herself moments later as she headed a Pedder corner into the roof of the net to make it 2-0, and another Pedder corner forced an own goal to make it 3-0.
Pedder was fast becoming the centre of attention, and caused havoc in the home defence again with another corner, from which Ash grabbed her second with a delightful glancing header.
Nine minutes into the second half it was five as another corner by dead ball expert Pedder was this time headed home by Megan Greening, and top scorer Jess Roffey capped off another impressive performance as she raced onto a through ball by the sublime Pedder to make it 6-0 to the hosts.
Swindon Supermarine held on to edge out Swindon Spitfires 2-1 in the South West Women’s Football League Eastern Division One.
Spitfires started the brighter with Kayleigh Reeves and Vicky Wilkes pulling the strings, but Supermarine took the lead after Mel Bristow found the net.
The forward doubled the lead minutes later, but with ten minutes to go Debbie Rose gave Spitfires hope after she calmly stroked the ball home, but there was not enough time to find an equaliser.
Swindon Town Ladies Under 16s totted up a total akin to a rugby scoreline when they took on Summertown at the weekend.
Town annihilated their opponents 23-0 to register an emphatic victory.
Pia Donaldson hit a double hat-trick while Hanna Donavan bagged five and there were hat-tricks for Natalie Evans and Kerry Hester.
Michaela Vitale (2), Sarah Humphreys (pen), Brin Gallagher and Olivia Longstaff were also among the goals.
