CAPTAIN Paul Caddis is confident he will recover from his ankle injury in time to lead Swindon Town out at Wembley for the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final.
The 23-year-old was taken off in the 4-0 home victory over Dagenham & Redbridge last Tuesday night, and it was initially feared he had suffered ligament damage and would be missing for several weeks.
But X-rays revealed the injury was not as bad as that, and the Scot will almost certainly lead his side out against Chesterfield on March 25, having already returned to light training.
“The injury is coming along quite well,” he said. “I have been back doing a bit of work in the gym so hopefully if I give it another week or so then I will be okay for Wembley. That was my aim so we will have to wait and see.”
“If I keep going the way I am then I will be back, definitely, but I just have to keep putting my trust in the physios like I have been doing, and doing what they say.”
While he is highly unlikely to be involved in Town’s visit to Crewe on Saturday, Caddis is more optimistic about making his return from injury in Tuesday night’s home game against Torquay.
“I just need to wait and see, but I am usually quite a quick healer, so if I make Tuesday night I will be ahead of schedule,” he said.
“Saturday is probably a bit too soon, but you never know I might come in tomorrow and do a bit of running, and then get out on the field again.”
The former Celtic youngster had started every game for Town this season before suffering the injury, which he feared may have ruled him out for a long time.
“When I went down it was quite frightening,” he said.
“I am one of the old school and I wear ankle protectors, and one of them had slipped out and I automatically thought it was my ankle.
“The pain was really sore but thankfully it was not as bad as first thought.
“The main thing was I was annoyed to be missing the next match because a target I had in my mind was to play every minute of every game this season.”
