RETURNING centre-half Aden Flint was frustrated not to be able to guide Swindon Town to victory on his comeback from injury in Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Crewe.

The 22-year-old was sidelined for six weeks with a groin injury he suffered in training, but while there were fears he could miss the rest of the season, Flint recovered to take his place at Gresty Road.

The former Alfreton man put in a solid performance alongside Joe Devera, but admitted Town deserved to lose after goals from Nick Powell and Ashley Westwood secured victory for the Railwaymen.

“We are obviously all very disappointed with the result because we didn’t start the game as we intended to start it,” he said. “They got the first goal and when we were trying to fight back they got the second.

“We were pushing forward quite well and hit the crossbar a few times, but in the end I think we deserved to lose because we were not up to scratch.

“I think we needed to get the ball down and play the football we are capable. We need to continue to show the team spirit we have got and if we can do both those things we will be fine I am sure.”

Flint returned to the side on time having been set a target of six weeks by specialists, and is now focused on putting in improved displays against Torquay tomorrow night, and then at Wembley in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final against Chesterfield on Sunday.

“I am very pleased to be back but I am disappointed I was not able to put in a better performance and help the team win because I did not play how I was capable of,” he said.

“Tuesday comes around quite quickly though so we have a couple of days to prepare for it. We want to get back onto the winning route again and we will be working to do that in the next game.

“I was set a target of six weeks when I saw the specialist and I have come back on time from that. I am delighted to be back in time for Wembley obviously, but we look to the Torquay game first because that is more important and we want to get promoted.”
