JEREMY Wray has called for one last push from Swindon fans to snap up the remaining tickets for the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final as the Robins count down the days to the trip to Wembley.

Town look set to have at least 30,000 supporters heading to the capital on Sunday when Paolo Di Canio’s side take on League One Chesterfield looking to claim their first silverware of the season.

Securing promotion is undoubtedly the main goal for Swindon, but the chance to win a cup competition does not come around too often and interim chairman Wray believes fans would be foolish to pass up the chance to cheer on Town at Wembley if they are able to attend.

He said: “I don’t want anyone in the town to miss out and think, ‘gosh I wanted to be a part of it’.

“It is very much a community day out, it is not like the pressure of the play-offs when there was so much riding on it, it is more a recognition of having something to celebrate whether we win, lose or draw. Everyone can go there and have a fantastic day.

“It is a one-off occasion and you only have to see how excited the players and everyone around the club. I just want to appeal to anybody who is interested in being a part of something with the town, this is a great opportunity to do that and be part of something that promises to be a special memory.”

The last time Swindon won a cup competition was 43 years ago, when they famously beat Arsenal 3-1 to lift the League Cup.

Fans and players involved in that day still speak fondly of it as if it was only yesterday, and Wray would like nothing more than Sunday’s game to have the same effect.

“It is sadly 43 years since we were last at Wembley in a cup competition and with a chance to win something,” he added.

“But it is interesting reading in the paper or online the people who are harking back to 1969 and remembering it as if it was yesterday.

“They are special days that provide special memories. They are one offs and you want it to be something that kids and adults alike say ‘I was there that day’.”
