LEE Cox plans to draw upon his experience of winning league titles in the past to help Swindon keep hold of first place in League Two right until the end of the season.
The midfielder helped Leicester win the Premier Academy League back in the 2006/07 season and then won promotion to the Scottish Premier League two years ago.
Town host Torquay tonight where a win for the Robins would strengthen their hold on first place, but defeat would throw the title race wide open.
And Cox believes the key at this stage of the season is not to let thoughts of how important a fixture is dominate a player’s mental preparation for the game.
“I think you have to take each and every game as though they are a normal game, because if you start thinking about what it means then that could affect you,” the former Inverness midfielder told the Advertiser.
“More than anything it is about having focus, you have to know what you have done all year and look back at the games you have done well in in the run up to that, and take that knowledge onto the field in every game.
“You also have to make sure you prepare right because promotion is a big occasion and you have to fell 120 per cent in your mind and your body.”
Town suffered only their second league defeat of the year on Saturday when they lost 2-0 to play-off chasing Crewe.
It was a disappointing performance from Paolo Di Canio’s men and they were all in agreement during a team meeting on Sunday that they need to be considerably better tonight.
And Cox has little doubt that fans will see Swindon back to their best against the Gulls.
“You get it in football where the other teams start really well and get the upper hand, I don’t think it will knock the lads’ confidence much,” he added. “I doubt there will be any problem getting the lads up for the game. The position of the two teams speaks for itself.
“They look a good team and as long as we focus on our game and not too much on theirs we’ll be fine.”
