JAY McEveley has completed the formalities of his loan move to Swindon after successfully coming through a medical.
The Barnsley full-back was exclusively revealed as Paolo Di Canio’s latest acquisition by the Advertiser yesterday morning, with the Town boss keen to strengthen his defence for the end-of-season run in.
McEveley had been a regular for the Tykes this season until the Championship side brought in Lee Collins from Port Vale.
Town were alerted to his availability and Jeremy Wray confirmed before Tuesday night’s win over Torquay that a signing was imminent.
McEveley joins until the end of the season with a view to making his move permanent in the summer after his contract at Barnsley expires.
He is available for the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final at Wembley against Chesterfield on Sunday.
Fellow left back Alessandro Cibocchi hobbled off late into the win over Torquay, but Di Canio has confirmed that his injury is nothing serious.
“He will be okay,” added the Town boss.
“Sometimes you have to slap the face of the player because when he came out after the game he was saying ‘I don’t feel my foot, I don’t feel my foot.’ “Yesterday morning he said ‘I am starting to feel the foot.’ “I said’well done Cibo’, he is 30 but his mind is like a kid!
“But he is okay and he will back training today.”
As for skipper Paul Caddis, Di Canio conceded it is a race against time for the defender to be fit.
The Scot has been out with an ankle injury since early March and has yet to start full training.
And Di Canio admitted it is now a matter of waiting to see how it improves over the next day or two.
“We hope he can play,” he said.
“Wembley is a good medicine, more than physio.
“He will be there but we will know more about whether he can play in the next few days.
“He has to train before the game, even if he is my captain more than two weeks without a training session means we could pay the price.
“We will see what is going on.”
There are still a few more days for fans to purchase tickets for the game, but as it stands close to 30,000 Town fans are expected to head to Wembley.
And Di Canio admitted having so many supporters following the club is making him feel excited for the day.
He said: “The fact that we go there with almost 30,000 Swindon fans travelling gives me butterflies in my stomach. I could not imagine this when I became manager.
“To give the chance to such a large population to go to Wembley as the protagonists makes me happy.
“It is obvious that I will have an emotional moment but I have to be cool and remain calm.”
