IF WES Foderingham has a boring afternoon this Sunday, that’ll sit just fine with Swindon’s young keeper as it’ll mean that Town will have tasted glory at Wembley, writes DAN BARNES.

The 21-year-old Londoner has been a major hit at the County Ground since joining Paolo Di Canio’s side on loan from Crystal Palace last October before making the move permanent in January.

Foderingham has been no stranger to quiet afternoons between the sticks in his time with Swindon and says that he’d be more than happy with another easy ride against Chesterfield, rather than being in the thick of the action.

“If I’m honest I’d rather not do anything and win but in the back of your mind, you’re always thinking that you want to be the hero, like if it goes to penalties, you save the last penalty and you’re running around with everyone chasing you,” he said.

“I’m not going to complain if I have nothing to do and we win – I’ll be just as happy.

“As long as we get the win, that’s the important thing.”

Despite still being in the early stages of his career, Foderingham can already boast experience of keeping a clean sheet at the country’s most famous stadium from back when he was a schoolboy with Fulham.

He said: “(I played there) for England under 16s – we had a friendly against Spain and we won 1-0.

“I kept a clean sheet and because it was a friendly, we only played a half each, so I think I had two saves to make, which were pretty routine.

“I’m sure it’ll be more intense this time round because it’s a competitive game and it’s a professional level, not a schoolboy level.”
