JUST under a year ago, Raffa De Vita was in the Scottish coastal town of Methil as around 700 fans watched Livingston beat East Fife 3-1.
Fastforward 12 months and De Vita has a very realistic chance of walking out at Wembley with over 50,000 fans in attendance, and the striker-turned-winger admitted it is something he could never have anticipated when making the decision to join Swindon.
“Before I signed everyone was saying that I would be part of something big by joining the club and obviously I agreed, but you never imagine that within eight months you would have a real chance of playing at Wembley,” he said.
“I had just come from Scotland, playing in some small places like Peterhead and Arbroath in front of around 500 fans.
“Now here we are just a few months later set to play in front of so many thousands of people and I could just never have imagined it.”
De Vita was regular in the side for the first half of the season having been converted from striker to left winger by Town boss Paolo Di Canio.
However, he has slipped behind January signing Luke Rooney in the pecking order while the recent arrival of Lee Holmes puts further pressure on his bid to claim a starting place in the side tomorrow.
But, should the chance present itself, he would be utterly thrilled to get on the Wembley pitch at some point tomorrow.
“It would be fantastic,” he added. “There is little point to talk about what type of experience it will be for everyone because you wouldn’t be able to describe it.
“Wembley is one of the best stadiums in the world and everyone can’t wait to play there. I think just about any player in the world – no matter the level they play at – would say Wembley is one of the best stadiums to play at and I obviously feel no different.”
