ADEN Flint looked back to his best against Bristol Rovers on Saturday and the defender is hoping to continue to be involved as he looks to build up his fitness following a lengthy lay-off through injury.

The former Alfreton skipper formed a formidable partnership with Alan McCormack in the heart of the defence earlier in the season before he was sidelined by a groin injury.

Flint and Paolo Di Canio had feared he would be ruled out for the rest of the season, but his recovery has been quicker than anticipated and he is available to play a part in Swindon’s end-of-season run in.

The 22-year-old resumed his partnership with McCormack on Saturday and the pair did well to limit Rovers to very few chances in a game that ended goalless.

“It was nice to be back in the side, although it would have been better if we got the three points,” he said.

“At one point I did think the season might be over but we saw the right people to see what we could do and the best course of action was taken.

“I still need to build up my fitness again but the more I play the more I will build it up. I just want to be involved again now, but if other players come in I am sure they will do well as well.”

It was a frustrating afternoon at the County Ground as Town were unable to turn their dominance into goals, but Flint believes the Robins can take heart from their performance.

“We battled all game and credit to Bristol Rovers because they came with a gameplan and stuck to it,” he added.

“We knew we had to come out of the blocks and we dominated the first half, certainly more than we did in the second half.

“We tried to get the ball down and play but unfortunately we could not get it into the goal.”
