A LEE Holmes goal seven minutes into the second-half has earned Swindon Town a 1-0 victory over Northampton at the County Ground this afternoon.
The on-loan winger cut inside and drilled in a cross which beat everyone to sail into the back of the net, on what was a tough afternoon.
Windy conditions made things difficult for both sides, but Town were always in control, even if they were not able to produce their best.
Paul Benson always looked a threat for the home side, while Brett Williams provided the only real outlet for the visitors.
Here are the key moments from the match.
9mins: Lee Holmes has the game’s first decent chance, but Neal Kitson touches his low shot wide.
10mins: Wes Foderingham is nearly caught out by a wind-assisted free kick from Anthony Charles, but recovers well to tip over despite the presence of Kelvin Langmead.
23mins: There are appeals for a penalty as Luke Rooney heads Holmes’ cross against John Johnson, but referee Stuart Attwell says no.
32mins: Benson does well to turn and escape his marker before firing his shot straight at Kitson. The keeper tries to clear and Ronan Murray charges down his kick, but Kitson scrabbles back.
38mins:Michael Jacobs forces Foderingham into a superb save to his right with a well-struck effort.
HALF TIME
52mins: GOAL Lee Holmes picks up a long ball on the right, and cuts inside and fires in a cross which beats everyone at the back post, including keeper Kitson, to give Town the lead.
65mins: Swindon really in control with most of the play going through Holmes, and McCormack gets forward well but fires over.
80mins: Benson gets away at the back post, but heads wide after a good ball in from Jay McEveley.
81mins: Williams squanders what is probably the visitors’ best chance of the afternoon, but drives over from 15-yards out.
