RAFFA De Vita is hoping he gets the chance to replicate his late winner which earned Swindon a 1-0 win at Plymouth earlier in the season.
The Italian converted Matt Ritchie’s cross with eight minutes remaining at Home Park to make sure of a vital victory, which came on an emotional day for Paolo Di Canio following the death of his father.
The three points left Town 10th in the League Two table, but ever since they have been on an unstoppable surge to the top of league which could see them secure promotion tomorrow.
“I would like to hope for the same again because it was great to score the winning goal, but we are a better side now and we are on a great run, so hopefully we will be able to score more than one this time,” he said.
“We all remember that game because it was an emotional occasion for Paolo, but at the end of the day it was a huge three points.
“We won at Accrington the week before, and from then we started to go on a really good run of form. Since then we have not looked back.
“Tomorrow could be a special day but we have to hope other results go our way, so we can not think it will happen this weekend.
“We have to concentrate on our game, and then if things have all gone right we can celebrate.
“But the manager has said to us that even if we do win this weekend we have to keep on winning to make sure we do something special.
“We know the league is in our hands and it will come, so there is no need to rush. We will be happy if we win it tomorrow, but if not we go to the next one.”
De Vita is hoping to make Di Canio’s starting line-up after a good display from the bench against Northampton on Monday, and is keen to put a run of starts together.
“Every week is different and the manager changes things every week no matter how we did the week before, but I was just pleased to get on and I think I did OK,” he said.
“I would like to start, and as long as the team wins I am happy.
“I found things a lot easier when I was playing every week because I got a lot more confidence and fitness, but you have to make the best of things and that is what I am trying to do.
“As the gaffer likes to say, it is always better to play less games at a club like Swindon who are looking to go places and always improve, than to play every week in a team struggling to stay up. I would much rather be here.”
