ADEN Flint was always confident Swindon Town would find the goal they needed to see off Plymouth and take another huge step towards promotion to League One.
Alan Connell struck late to secure a 1-0 victory over Plymouth and leave Town within a point of going up, on an afternoon where they controlled the entire game without being rewarded for their long spells of possession.
Flint and partner Joe Devera kept Argyle striker Warren Feeney quiet all afternoon, but always knew Town were capable of breaking the deadlock.
“It was always going to be one of those games which is battle, and they came here and shut up shop well with two banks of four,” he said.
“We just kept battering and battering until we eventually got the goal we deserved. I think we always knew we had a goal in us but it was just when it was going to come.
“The squad has massive character, because we are grinding out results and keeping clean sheets, so it is great for us.”
Flint was disappointed not to be able to celebrate promotion in front of the Town faithful after both Torquay and Crawley picked up draws, but has already shifted focus to tomorrow’s game at Aldershot.
He said: “We have to look forward to tomorrow and a draw will be enough for us to secure promotion, although we will be going for the win.
“Aldershot are a good side who have put in some good performances recently and will want the win themselves, but we need to try a bit more football.
“Everyone wants to be champions because we have come so far, and I think it would be ridiculous if we did not go on and win the league.”
