RETURNING skipper Paul Caddis was just pleased to complete 90 minutes following his late call-up for Town’s 1-0 victory over Plymouth on Saturday.

The right-back was due to start on the bench after missing nine games with an ankle injury suffered against Dagenham at the start of March, but after Alan McCormack rushed to the hospital to be at the birth of his daughter, Caddis was called into the starting line up.

The Scot only knew he was playing just before the teams went out for the warm up, but was pleased with how things went.

“Sometimes it is good to be thrown straight into things and I think I did OK,” he said.

“I was planning on playing 25 minutes at the end of the game to ease me back into playing after a little while out, and that was my mindset right through until about ten past two.

“It is great news for Alan and we are all really pleased for him, and I happy to come back in and play the full 90 minutes because sometimes it is hard to come on in games like that which are a little cagey.”

Caddis was also impressed with the strength boss Paolo Di Canio showed by taking charge of the game despite the death of his mother, and admitted he would have struggled to do the same.

“To be honest I don’t think I could do it, and I don’t think there are many other people who could either,” he said.

“He speaks for himself I think, and it must have taken a lot for him to stand on the sidelines given everything that has happened.

“It must all have been running through his head but he has still managed to come in and be professional.

“He gave us all the same preparation he always does, and to look at him I don’t think you could have told that anything was wrong.

“We found out at the end of the game, but we started to think because he was wearing the black armband for the game, but the fact he was so strong shows you exactly what kind of man he is.”

  • SWINDON Town Under 18s lost 4-1 at Bristol Rovers on Saturday morning.

Rovers took the lead against Paul Bodin's side after three minutes, but Town hauled themselves back into the game and had a number of opportunities to equalise before Miles Storey eventually fired in an excellent volley to bring the visitors level.

A mistake at the back then allowed Rovers to take a 2-1 lead on 69 minutes, and a long ball caused problems for the Town defence as the hosts made it 3-1 soon after.

Swindon pushed forwards to try and pull themselves back into the game, but Rovers rounded off victory with a fourth in stoppage time.
