Highworth ended their disappointing run of form with a 2-0 victory at Wokingham & Emmbrook in the Hellenic Premier at the weekend.
The Elms side, who had been defeated three times in a row by Wokingham and most recently on Thursday, scored two early goals that gave them a comfortable home victory.
Dan Wallington gave Highworth the advantage after two minutes when his cross from the right went all the way into the net.
Just four minutes later the lead stretched to 2-0, as a slick team move was finished off by forward Matty Bennett.
The remainder of the game was not a great spectacle and there was little to speak of in terms of goalmouth action.
But that did not bother Dave Webb one bit, with the Highworth manager stating that the result was all-important.
“We’ve not been in the best of form so I’m really pleased just to get the win,” said Webb.
“We haven’t had the best of weeks with the points deduction and being without a win in five so we needed to win, and that was what we did.
“It’s vitally important for us to finish well as we want to take some momentum into the Challenge Cup final on May 7.”
Highworth will take on Binfield or Headington next month for the right to earn silverware, and Webb revealed that spots in the starting line-up are still very much up for grabs.
Only centre-back Gary Hill can count himself a shoo-in for selection with every other position being unfilled in the mind of Webb.
“From a players’ perspective, there aren’t that many who are definite starters for May 7,” added the manager.
“Gary Hill is probably the only one who is guaranteed to be in the side if he’s fit.
“He’s the model player, he’s a proper defender and I can’t rest him. He always gives you eight out of 10.
“If he makes a mistake, and he doesn’t make many, he just picks himself up and gets on with it.
“We’re lucky to have him at Highworth.
“The rest of the places, it’s up to the players.”
Elsewhere on Saturday, Fairford grabbed a shock win at third-placed Ardley.
The survival of the Cinder Lane club may be out of their hands but they gave a superb performance to beat the high-flyers.
Charlie Grabe opened the scoring 10 minutes before half time and Jon Gabilondo doubled the lead after the break, before Ryan Brooks replied for Ardley with 18 minutes to play.
