OLIVER Risser will put brotherly love firmly to one side for tonight’s potential promotion clinching visit to Aldershot.
The midfielder’s younger brother Wilko joined the Shots in February following a spell training with Swindon earlier in the season, and the pair are set to go head-to-head on the pitch for the first time.
The brothers share a close bond and played youth football together in Namibia, but 31-year-old Oliver is adamant there is no room for sentiment once they cross the white line.
“This game is going to be special because we can seal our promotion and it is great to be able to do that, and also because I will be playing against my brother,” he said.
“But on the day he is just another opponent for me, even if that sounds a little weird. If there is a tackle to make I will make it, and if it is against him then it is against him.
“He is not my brother when we are on the field tomorrow because Swindon Town is my bread and butter, and if he is in the way then I have to go through him.
“We speak to each other most days and have been talking a lot about the game, and I know we are both firmly looking forward to it.”
Wilko has had to wait a long time to earn a deal in English football following several spells training with clubs, including Swindon, but the older Risser is pleased his brother has finally been given a chance.
“Things are not as easy as they were a couple of years ago, because clubs are a lot more careful where they spend their money.
“Also in football it is about fitting into a team, and it is hard sometimes to find a good team like that,” he said.
“Aldershot have given him an opportunity, and he is very happy there so I am pleased for him. He is enjoying himself because he was about football for a few months, and he is growing in confidence in every game.”
Things have not been easy this season either for the former Town skipper, but he is convinced his personal problems are now firmly behind him.
“At the beginning of the year it was hard for me because I was in a new country with a new culture, but my season started in December and since then I have been playing quite a bit,” he said.
“The more you play the better you get, and I really like playing with Simon Ferry. It doesn’t matter who I play with though, I just want to start games and give my best.”
