NATHAN Thompson is delighted to be back involved with the Swindon Town first team at the business end of the season.
The young right back was in and around the first team squad at the start of the season before dropping out and picking up a hamstring injury.
But in the last few weeks the 20-year-old has been recalled to the squad, and although he has not made it onto the pitch in that time, is just pleased to be involved once again.
“There is a really positive atmosphere going around at the moment, and I am just pleased to be a part of that,” he said.
“We want to cement promotion and the title in the next couple of games, and that is something great to be involved with.
“It has been an up and down season for me because I was involved at the start and then wasn’t involved and then got an injury which kept me out for a while which was annoying.
“Now I am back I just want to get on the pitch, but Paul Caddis is back now and we will just have to wait and see.”
The youngster has spent most of his season watching from the stands, and has been impressed with the way his team mates have performed.
“It is so different around here compared to last season, because the mood wasn’t great, and the gaffer has come in and lifted everyone and made it a great place to be.
“I am not the best watcher because I get quite nervous for the team, but because everyone has been playing so well it has been a lot easier, and we have made the County Ground a real fortress.”
“The defence has been amazing, and as a defender watching that has been great. Since Wes came in he has been amazing, and so have all the defenders, so it is hard to be unhappy at not being in the team when everyone has been playing like that.”
Thompson has been impressed with the way boss Paolo Di Canio has worked with the young players at the club this season, and is convinced he has improved as a player.
“To have a player as good as he was teaching you is amazing, and his attention to detail is spot on. He helps you whenever he can, and for young players that is great, and I think we will all take that away from this season.”
