SWINDON’S promotion party was postponed until Saturday at least as goals from Guy Madjo and Danny Hylton secured Aldershot a 2-1 victory at the EBB Stadium last night.

Madjo followed up well after Wes Foderingham palmed Hylton’s shot away after 12 minutes, and after Paul Caddis had equalised from the spot, Hylton was on hand to tap in after Madjo outmuscled Aden Flint on the touchline and put in a good cross.

Town were largely second best for much of the game, as the pace of Hylton caused problems, and the Shots looked to find big striker Madjo at every opportunity.

Swindon never really forced a save from home keeper Jamie Young, and were guilty of losing possession in midfield on a number of occasions as well as not competing with the hosts physically.

Despite defeat for Town and wins for Shrewsbury and Crawley, Paolo Di Canio’s side are still in pole position to go up and win the league, and both can now be secured when the Robins go to Gillingham on Saturday.

After an impeccably observed minute’s silence for Di Canio’s mother, Raffa De Vita had the game’s first chance but Young gathered with ease.

Jonathan Smith fired a snap shot wide as Town kept the pressure on, and Murray was able to break free of his man, but his cross could not find Benson.

But the home side were easing themselves into the game, and soon took the lead when a long ball caught McCormack out, and after Foderingham parried Hylton’s shot, Madjo was there to prod the ball home.

Town looked shell-shocked and struggled to settle, although Murray did sting the hands of Young with a vicious cross.

Slowly but surely Town were playing their way into the game, and Callum Kennedy wriggled free down the left and put a good ball into the box, and although De Vita headed it back well, Smith was beaten to the ball as he shaped to shoot.

Aldershot continued to press and forced a succession of corners, but first Murray and then Caddis were able to clear.

Hylton sent one clearance straight back into the box, but Kennedy was there to mop up the mess after Foderingham struggled under the high ball.

Kennedy managed to get forward well again after a one-two with Rooney, but De Vita could only head his cross onto the roof of the home net.

The home side came out in the second half and picked up where they left off in the first, and Adam Mekki had a good effort deflected behind for a corner, which Town cleared well before Wilko Risser fired a long-range effort wide.

Benson broke free wide on the right and fired in a cross which Luke Rooney tried to bring down, but Peter Vincenti’s hand got in the way and the referee pointed to the spot.

Captain Caddis stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way, as Town’s promotion party looked back on again.

But they were not level for long, as substitute Flint tried to ease a long ball out of play, but was robbed by Madjo who squared for Hylton for a tap in.

Di Canio brought on Simon Ferry to try and win the midfield battle, but the home side continued to fly forward looking to add to their lead, with Mekki firing in a vicious shot.

Town were struggling to create any real chances, and when Benson tried to set Murray free, Darren Jones mopped up well to give it back to his goalkeeper.

A moment of confusion between Young and Jones almost presented Town with a good chance as they looked to turn the screw, but Jon Smith fired his effort wide before Benson headed a cross past the post minutes later.

Town were presented with their best chance of the second half with eight minutes remaining, when Simon Ferry was brought down on the edge of the box. Lee Holmes stepped up to take it, but his low effort was straight at Young, summing up a frustrating evening for the League Two leaders.
