A DANNY Kedwell goal has given Gillingham a 1-0 half time lead over Swindon this afternoon.
The striker connected with a Charlie Lee long throw to head the ball past Phil Smith after 25 minutes.
Town started much the brighter and dominated the ball for most of the half, and created a number of good chances.
Alan Connell and John Bostock combined well in attack, and both players had decent efforts which were straight at Paulo Gazzaniga.
But the home side took the lead against the run of play, as Kedwell connected with Lee’s throw to loop a header over Smith.
After going a goal down Town continued to have much of possession, but could not find a way through.
Paolo Di Canio’s team were lucky not to be 2-0 down, as first Liam Montrose thundered an effort against the bar, and as the ball was worked back into the box, Chris Whelpdale should have scored but his header went wide.
Torquay and Crawley are both drawing at half time meaning Town will be promoted if things stay as they are, but with Shrewsbury winning there is still work to do to secure the League Two title.
