SUPERMARINE’S relegation from the Southern Premier has been confirmed - barring a miracle of goal difference or a reprieve.

The South Marston side lost 2-0 at home to Barwell on Saturday, meaning they will need to win their final game of the season at Cambridge, while Banbury and Evesham would have to lose.

In addition, Marine would have to hugely improve their goal difference to beat that of Banbury, Arlesey and possibly Evesham, which is a highly unlikely state of affairs.

The club’s best bet is that they could get a reprieve if they finish fourth from bottom and another club drops out of either the Southern, Isthmian or Northern Leagues.

But as matters stand, it will be Division One South & West football for the Webb’s Wood outfit next season.

Now the focus will turn to the respective futures of joint player-managers Gary Horgan and Matt Robinson, who are mulling over their options.

Interim chairman Keith Yeomans revealed: “We’ve spoken to them and we’d like to know what their feelings are about carrying on.

“Robbo is in the police force so I don’t know if he would find it difficult to commit, and Gary has just had a little one and might need more time with his family.

“We aren’t looking for anyone else and we want one or both of them to carry on if they want to do it.

“It’s a job that takes a lot of time, but whatever happens, we want them involved in some way.”

Horgan told the Advertiser that he would not be making an immediate decision.

He said: “I said I might need a couple of weeks - if I made a decision at the moment I’d let what’s gone on this season influence it too much.

“I don’t think the league we play in will make a difference, either you want to do it or you don’t.

“If we kept the nucleus of what we’ve got, we’d be quite well-equipped in the league below.”

Robinson added: “The club have been good enough to approach us straight away and I appreciate that.

“I’ve enjoyed my time doing it and me and Gary have bounced well off each other.

“It’s a case of me and Gary sitting down together and having a chat about it.”

The club’s presentation evening was held on Saturday evening and Rob Dean swept the board.

The ex-Highworth midfielder - in his first Southern League season - scooped managers’ player of the season, players’ player of the season and supporters’ player of the season.

Other awards were given to Horgan and Kyle Lapham for surpassing 200 appearances this season.

Meanwhile, Chippenham secured just their second victory of the season after trouncing an experimental St Albans side 4-1.

The Bluebirds took the lead in the second minute as Ross Stearn converted after goalkeeper Nick Jupp was at fault.

Chris Henry levelled moments later but on the quarter-hour mark Alan Griffin’s close-range effort was ruled to have crossed the line.

A Stearn rocket extended the lead just before the interval and Griffin glanced in a James Guthrie cross after the resumption to put the polish on victory.

Elsewhere, Cirencester’s miserable campaign took yet another turn for the worse as they copped a 4-1 flogging at fellow strugglers Hemel Hempstead.

Dave Pearce volleyed Hemel into the lead early on before ex-Chippenham man Matt McEntegart flicked hom the second in the 24th minute.

Just after the half-hour mark Ryan Blake lobbed home the third goal of the day.

After Nathan Davies was brought down in the area, Scott Griffin pulled one back from the penalty spot.

Moments into the second period, Ross Lafayette fired into the roof of the net and that was how it stayed until the final whistle.
