LES Gill has paid tribute to his Sanford side after they landed their second league title in two seasons.
Sanford, who won Wiltshire League Division One last term, are now Wiltshire Premier champions following a 3-1 win at Amesbury at the weekend.
Taylor Gill, Devon Bryan and Brad Gill scored the goals as the Swindon outfit put the title beyond Bradford’s reach.
This means that Sanford’s final game of the season against Bradford is now a dead rubber, when it looked for a long time as if it would be crucial.
Manager Gill was understandably delighted to secure back-to-back league championships.
He said: “I'm so very proud of all the players who have played their part in what's been a very long season.
“We have been consistent throughout, maintained that desire and enthusiasm to win football matches and also have this unbelievable willingness to work hard as individuals and for each other.
“The players deserve all the recognition and without question, smashed my pre-season expectations of simply finishing in the top four.
“It's certainly a massive achievement to win the Wilts Premier title especially having got promotion by winning the Division One title in what was our first season.”
Elsewhere in the Wiltshire Premier at the weekend, Bradford’s 2-1 victory over Moredon was rendered meaningless by Sanford’s triumph over Amesbury.
The two remaining games in the division saw Blyskawica slump to a 3-1 defeat at Corsham Reserves, while lowly Southbrook narrowly lost 1-0 at Shrewton.
In Division One, just three matches were played. One of the few sides with realistic hopes of ending Box’s winning run, Old Town Wanderers, could not deliver.
Old Town lost 5-2 at the champions and Craig Gingell’s men now need just one more victory to make it a maximum 26 league wins out of 26 for the campaign.
Elsewhere, Ashton Keynes whitewashed Chippenham Youth Reserves 4-0 while Malmesbury Reserves just edged a nine-goal blockbuster. They were 5-4 winners over AFC Wroughton.
There are now just a handful of games to play until both divisions of the Wiltshire League are concluded for the season. Bradford are the only side who have more than one game left to play.
