LOANEE John Bostock believes returning to the County Ground next season could be the best thing for him as he bids to reignite his stalling career.

The 20-year-old was one of the hottest prospects in English football when he moved from Crystal Palace to Tottenham for close to £1million in 2008, but has spent the majority of his time at White Hart Lane out on loan.

In that time he has made only 29 appearances for the likes of Brentford, Hull and Sheffield Wednesday, and started his first game for Town in Saturday’s defeat at Gillingham following a cameo appearance in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final at Wembley.

Bostock impressed in an advanced attacking role at Priestfield, and even though he has not played as much as he would like, he believes a return to Swindon on a season-long loan could be exactly what he needs.

“I have one year left on my contract with Spurs and I just need to find somewhere to play football,” he said.

“Whether that is at Swindon I don’t know because it is out of my hands, but with two games left all I can do is show the manager and the fans what I can do.

“If it worked out for me and for everyone at the club here then I think that coming here could be the best move for me, but I just need to see what happens.

“Obviously I am a Tottenham player and my goal is to break through there, but that is very difficult to do because there are some amazing players ahead of me.

“But I just need to play, regardless of which club, and that is my main focus for next season.

“I have had Twitter for the last few months, and I have had a lot of response and messages from fans asking me if I would come here on loan next season.

“So far I have only played one full game for the club so it is very encouraging to think that the fans would like to see me come back after that.”

Town boss Paolo Di Canio was pleased with the way Bostock performed at Gillingham, but the youngster revealed he did not expect to play much of a part at Swindon following his involvement at Wembley.

“I played 20 minutes at Wembley and not much since, then I guess after that I was expecting it to have been my only appearance in a Swindon shirt,” he said.

“So I just knuckled down and worked hard and did everything I could to prove myself.

“It was great to be involved, even though we lost the game, because I needed to get 90 minutes under me.

“I want to play again this weekend, and if I do we could seal the title which would be special.”
