PORT Vale manager Micky Adams will instruct his players to go out and spoil Swindon’s party when the two sides meet at the County Ground tomorrow.

A win for Town will make sure of the League Two title, but Adams believes that his side still have plenty to play for even though they are safe in midtable, and wants a similar performance to the one which saw them impress in their 1-0 defeat at Shrewsbury last weekend.

“We don’t want to see them celebrate winning the title tomorrow,” said Adams. “But if they have got 14,000 fans in the ground tomorrow and they are celebrating because they have beaten us then my players can see what it means to the supporters and to teams who celebrate promotion.

“But in an ideal world we don’t want to go down there and go through that scenario. Those celebrations wouldn’t sit right with me.

“I want us to go down there and be nice and positive very much like we did at Shrewsbury without getting the result.

“So we’re going down there to tray and spoil the party.”

Vale have suffered with financial problems all season and are still in administration, and while Adams has been impressed with how Town boss Paolo Di Canio has gone about his business this season, he cast envious glances towards a manger who has been well backed by the club’s board.

“Paolo has done a fantastic job, and it’s very difficult to try and stick the knife into a manager who has got his team promoted,” he said.

“He’s had a fair bit of help from his board and chairman this season and those people also need to be applauded because they have given him the tools to do his job.

“Sometimes a lot of people at this level don’t get afforded that.”
