WINGER Lee Holmes is hopeful Swindon can succeed where parent club Southampton failed and convert their impressive league position into a league title.
The Saints are still able to secure promotion to the Premier League if they beat Coventry tomorrow, but they led the Championship for much of the season before being overhauled by eventual winners Reading.
Swindon have been in a similar position for much of this season, but on-loan Holmes is determined not to let the Robins suffer the same fate as his colleagues on the south coast.
“Southampton have been up there for almost the whole season, and we are in a similar position here too,” he said.
“When you are at the top you can sometimes start to think that going on and winning it is inevitable, but we still have a big job to do and we need to finish on a high.
“It is a shame for everyone at Southampton that they did not win the title, but if they can secure promotion on Saturday that would be great for them, and they will be in the Premier League.
“That would be a great place to be, so for them to be promoted to the Premier League is fantastic and is something they can put on their CVs.”
While Holmes insisted everyone at Swindon would be happy to win the title however it came, the winger would rather go out in style in front of a packed County Ground.
“It is very important to put on a performance at home and bring to an end a great season by winning the championship, that is what we all aim for and that has been our goal the whole time,” he said.
“We need to make sure we get the win, but it is also important we put in a good performance to finish on a high. All I have been thinking about is how we can put in our best display on Saturday but also how we can get the win because that is the main thing.
“We want to be able to lift the trophy at home and that would obviously be fantastic for me and everyone involved.”
Holmes revealed initial discussions have begun regarding the possibility of making his loan move to the County Ground permanent, which interests him.
“We have had a little bit of communication and we have all put our cards on the table, but the one thing I have said all along is that the club is going places and that is exciting for everyone,” he said.
“If something did come around it would be really interesting for me, because everything the club is going through at the moment is very special.”
