GOALKEEPER Wes Foderingham believes Town boss Paolo Di Canio made the right decision to drop him from the team to face Gillingham last weekend, but is itching to get back into the side to help secure the League Two title tomorrow.
The 20-year-old was one of four players left out at Priestfield for their part in a night out, but Di Canio has forgiven his players and Foderingham is set to start against Port Vale tomorrow.
A win will ensure Town win the league, and Foderingham is desperate to play a part after having to watch his team-mates celebrate promotion on the pitch at Gillingham.
“I was very disappointed obviously, and I was gutted when the manager decided to leave us out,” he said.
“But I think it was the correct decision because we didn’t behave and we had to be punished.
“Aldershot feels like a long time ago which is when I last played.
“I did go to the Gillingham game even though I was not playing, and I was disappointed not to be there on the pitch to celebrate, but the main thing was that we got promotion.
“But there will be some great celebrations now this weekend if we can go out and win the title.
“We want to give the fans a chance to celebrate which they deserve, and it will be great to celebrate all together.”
Foderingham has only conceded one goal in the league at home all season, and while he is proud of his record his only concern is that the team wins.
“We have had a lot of wins and a lot of clean sheets, and to concede so few goals in the league is an amazing acheivement,” he said.
“I was gutted when the goal went in against Shrewsbury but I am not here to get records really, I just want to put the performances in and help the team win.”
“The main thing is that we win. If we win 2-1 I will not lose any sleep over the fact we conceded a goal to be honest.”
The former Crystal Palace player believes the squad is focussed on winning the title, but admitted Port Vale would prove a tough test.
“Not winning the title has not crossed our minds, and all we have thought about is winning, and that is the only option.
“People underestimate how good they are because without their 10-point penalty they would be in and around the play-offs, and they have some very good players.
“When we played them earlier in the season they gave us a good game, and even though we managed to get the three points in the end they ran us close.
“The main aim is for us to win the title, and that is the expectation now, so we need to go out there and do a job.”
