MIDFIELDER Simon Ferry believes the bitter taste of relegation last season is firmly behind everyone at Swindon Town after they secured the League Two title with a 5-0 victory over Port Vale.
Ferry was part of the side which finished rock bottom of League One last season, but has played a vital role in the centre of midfield as Paolo Di Canio’s side swept all before them to return at the first time of asking.
The Scot was back to his best during Saturday’s victory, and superbly set up Paul Benson for Town’s second goal with an excellent flick between his legs, on a special afternoon for everyone connected with the club.
“This is what you work all year for, and to round it off with a performance like we did is very special,” Ferry said.
“I am just pleased for all the boys because we deserve it as there has been a lot of hard work over the course of the season.
“When you are relegated you owe the fans and people who work at the club something, so we always wanted to go back up, but to do it as champions is great and cancels out everything that happened last season.
“In the second half against Port Vale I think we played as good as we have all year, so to seal everything like that is amazing.
“For the goal I just saw Benno out the corner of my eye and flicked it to him, but we scored a few great goals.”
