THREE of Walcot's young boxers hope to take a step nearer national glory today when they compete in the quarter-final of the Golden Gloves Championship at the Broad Plain Boys' Club, in Bristol.
Thirteen-year-old Connor Wells meets Frankie Smith, from Guildford City ABC, in their Class 2 (50-52kgs) match.
The Dorcan schoolboy has won three times already to reach this stage, and is hopeful of a four-timer on Saturday.
He said: "I've boxed and won for the past three Saturdays and I'm feeling really good.
"Smith has a similar record to myself so it should be a close contest."
Last season's Class 1 (54-57kgs) champion Ryan Martin will face Woking's Rhys Murphy in their Class 2 (57-60kgs) encounter.
Martin has received a bye to this stage of the tournament, due to a lack of West Country rivals prepared to tackle the national champion.
Fourteen-year-old Joe Buckley will renew rivalry with Billy Eastwood, from the Grange ABC, in their Class 3 (54-57kgs) contest.
Buckley lost a close contest to Eastwood at this stage of the competition last season.
Chief coach Harry Scott is hopeful of more success for the Walcot club.
He said: "All three lads are training well and looking good. I hope they can produce the goods on the day."
The boxing starts at 12.30pm.
