Walcot boxer Jorgen Cetaj has reached the final of a national championship.
Cetaj will contest the final of the National Association of Children and Young Person's Championship after victory over Aaron Rees of Newport in the semi- final of the Class B (70-75kgs) category at the Cwmbran Stadium, Gwent.
This battle of national middleweight champions proved to be a humdinger, with no quarter asked or given.
Sixteen-year-old Cetaj landed early with left hooks and straight rights, but the Welshman countered with left jabs and straight rights to redress the balance.
After the opening round the score was tied at 6-6.
The middle session saw last season's English ABA middleweight champion rock the Newport fighter with a heavy straight right to the head, but, to his credit, Rees refused to buckle under the onslaught, and replied with heavy shots of his own.
A 9-9 scoreline at this stage was a fair reflection of a close contest, and the final round was equally exciting.
The Swindon boxer repelled the Welshman with left jabs and hard rights and dug deep in the dying seconds to land with three unanswered shots and record a 15-13 points victory.
Coach Dave Veysey was relieved that his boxer had won. He said: "That was too close for comfort, but a gutsy display from Jorgen.
"The Welsh champion gave us a tough battle, but we've won and we're in the final.
"That was Jorgen's 12th consecutive win over the past two years, which is a fantastic achievement.
"He really is a talent and I hope he keeps winning all the way to the 2012 London Olympics."
The final is at Pond's Forge in Sheffield on Thursday, March 6.
