Penhill RBL amateur boxing had two Swindon boys triumph on the card in a show at Southampton.

The first to box was Shaun Cooney who faced Luke Mavric from Wecock Farm ABC at 49kg.

Mavric was unbeaten in three fights going into the contest, stopping two of his opponents.

Cooney landed a nice over-the-top right early on and then blocked Mavric's response.

Cooney then caught his rival with a short left hook as he pulled away in the second round, Mavric throwing lots of punches but not being able to penetrate Cooney's tight defence.

As the bell sounded for the third round they had a toe to toe exchange of punches, with Cooney landing a straight right hand and Mavric landing a straight left.

At the end of the fight, Cooney was awarded a majority decision.

Penhill's second fighter, Kelvin Young, took on Luke Finnegan from Bordon ABC at 77kg.

This was Young's first fight as a senior boxer and he had a big test in front of him.

His opponent was very tall, had 29 junior contests under his belt and was a Junior Golden Gloves Championship finalist.

Young was hit with an early straight right but found the target with a right hook stepping back and landing rights and lefts.

In the second round Young landed a short right in the middle of a combination before Finnegan resorted to holding prompting the referee to dock him a point.

Young then connected with a perfect right hand and Finnegan's legs dipped but he shook it off. Finnegan recovered well in the last, landed a nice right hand towards the end of the round, but he had no answer to Young's long-range shots and it was another majority decision for the man from Penhill.
