PENHILL’S Billy Joe Loveridge just missed out on a victory on his ring debut at Porthcawl ABC.
Loveridge took on Parris Heanau from the host club in what was an all-action affair from the first bell to the last.
Although Heanau was given a standing count in the third round, after the final bell it was the home boxer that edged a majority decision.
Elsewhere, Kane Jones dominated the first two rounds of his fight against Porthcawl’s Ben Ellis, culminating in his opponent receiving a standing count in the second.
In the third round, both boxers were warned and Jones received an unjustified public warning, and the deduction saw him on the wrong side of a majority decision.
Coach Joe Wrona said: “Billy Joe has started to believe he has the ability to become a good prospect in the heavyweight division.
“He has worked extremely hard in last few months and it has paid off, so all credit to him.
“Kane boxed very well but got involved by his opponents hit and hold tactics and was unfairly treated.
“But he has improved no end and will do really well in the future.”
