PENHILL Amateur Boxing Club finished the season on a high with nine wins out of 12 in their home show at the Premier Club in Stratton.
First up was 11-year-old Mountford Manor Primary School pupil Jordan Wall, who took on Harry Blick from Moneyfields ABC.
The first round saw Wall land left and right punches, and in the second round he upped the tempo to win on a unanimous points decision.
Curtis Bowers, 14 lost on a majority decision against Trowbridge ABC’s Brad Parsons before Dorcan schoolboy Jake Knowles, 14, took on Downend’s Ben Demmery and won on a comfortable unanimous points decision.
Next up, making his home debut was 15-year-old Billy Joe Loveridge against Micky Simpson from Bexhill ABC.
The first round saw the Sussex boy come out all guns blazing, throwing big punches which Loveridge did well to battle back against.
This was the pattern throughout the three rounds with Simpson winning on a unanimous points decision in what was a hard-fought contest.
This year’s Western Counties schoolboy champion, 14-year-old James Richards, was under pressure early on against Ian Gardiner from King Alfred ABC.
Gardiner came at Richards from the bell, catching him with three and four-punch combinations.
In the second round Gardiner tried to draw Richards into a scrap, but Richards out-boxed Gardiner to win on a unanimous points decision, and received the boxer of the night award.
Paul Johnson, 15, squared up to the more experienced Marley Samways from Moneyfields ABC and won on a unanimous points decision.
Sixteen-year-old big puncher Kane Jones caused the referee to inflict a standing count on Barton Hill ABC’s Owen Marshall early on.
Jones then dished out more punishment and the referee retired Marshall in the first round as Jones won on a technical knockout.
Phill Williams boxed with a high guard and scored with a number of clean punches in the first and second rounds against Hasthin Gateru from Baker Street ABC.
In the third Williams started to tire and allowed Gateru back into the bout, and the Baker Street won on a wafer-thin decision.
Luvson D'Costa overcame Lance Knibbs of Empire ABC on a unanimous points decision, before Kyle Romain took on National Smeltings’ Liam Poole in a thrilling contest.
Poole had won the last meeting between the pair on a majority decision, but this time Romain was not drawn into a scrap, but picked his punches and hit hard.
Romain dominated the bout and two standing counts were called against Poole before the towel to be thrown in, resulting in a technical knockout triumph for the Penhill fighter.
Last on were Danny Harris and Frome’s Mike Rose, and the latter dominated in a scrappy first round.
In the second Harris had two standing counts given against him and Rose won on a unanimous points decision.
ABA Coach Simon Knowles said: “It was a great show and all the boys did very well.
“Can I say a big thank you to George White and Steve Cannicot for sponsoring us, Ben Griswold, Joe Wrona, Tommy Trinder and the Premier Club.
“And thank you to all our supporters for helping us host a great night of amateur boxing. We all look forward to next season.”
