A GRITTY batting performance from Swindon’s Dean Williamson helped his side to a four-wicket victory over Frocester at Pounds Close in Premier One.

Williamson hit 69 of Swindon’s successful chase of 185 to anchor the visitors’ reply after Frocester had amassed 185 all out from 41 overs having won the toss.

Swindon were thankful to Michael Wilson’s stint of 3-19 from four overs with the ball, while Harry Chevis also collected three wickets, as only three Frocester batsmen got beyond 13.

Dan Cave top scored for the hosts with an unbeaten 46 but their total was never going to be enough after a solid opening partnership between Williamson and Sean Parker for Swindon’s first wicket.

Williamson eventually fell to Ashley Davis but the damage had already been done and it was left to Dan Harris, with 20 not out, and Tom Codling, with an beaten 23, to see the away side home to victory at the end of the 34th over.

In Premier Two, Goatacre were thoroughly outplayed by Downend, losing by five wickets having been bowled out for just 102 in a little over 30 overs at Goatacre Lane. Downend knocked off the required runs in less than 22 overs.

Lechlade were victorious over Nationwide House in the Wiltshire Division, chasing down their target of 184 with ease. Having elected to bowl after winning the toss, Lechlade shared the wickets around, with Natividade Fernandes and David Novais both claiming three and Kam Shah bagging two.

Dominic O’Neill made 54 from 34 balls for House, including three fours and four sixes, but when he was snared by Fernandes the visitors crumbled and the lower middle order contributed just one run between them.

In response to Nationwide’s 183-9, Lechlade cantered to victory with 47 from Rizwan Hussain and Shah’s 43. There were two wickets apiece for Marc Yates and O’Neill.

Purton, meanwhile, were crushed by 82 runs by Marshfield at the PCG. Batting first, Marshfield reached 197 all out, as Jim Creed scored 42 and captain Wayne Pascall hit 37. Alex Duffell took 4-32 for Purton but their hopes of victory were quickly dashed when four of the top six failed to reach double figures.

John Devlin top scored with an unbeaten 37 for the hosts, an innings which included four fours and two sixes, but they were bowled out for just 115 inside 34 overs.
