SWINDON seamer Jon Lewis has vowed to pull out all the stops to make his England Test debut at Lord's on Thursday after being picked in the 13-man squad to face Sri Lanka.
Lewis, 30, admitted he was surprised to learn of his inclusion yesterday, which came after a brilliant nine-wicket performance against the touring side for England A last week.
The former Churchfields School pupil has been picked in three previous Test squads, but has yet to go on to earn his first cap.
But Gloucestershire captain Lewis told the Advertiser: "I've been playing some really good cricket this season and now the priority is getting in the team.
"That means doing my best in the nets this week and showing the selectors what I can do.'' He added: "I wasn't expecting to play for England at all this summer to be honest because of what happened in the winter and what the selectors had said to me.
"I thought I had a chance of being in the one-day squad (to India and Pakistan) in the winter, but they chose to go with other guys.
"That's the decision they had to make but I was disappointed not to be there "In two first-class games this season I've taken 19 wickets, which speaks for itself and that's obviously been recognised by the selectors.''
