A WASHOUT at Lord's last season broke Wiltshire hearts and new manager Neil Shardlow admits it is now a case of once bitten twice shy.

Ahead of Wiltshire's Minor Counties knock-out cup tie against Buckinghamshire at Trowbridge on Sunday, Shardlow revealed everyone is closing their minds to a potential dream Lord's final.

Shardlow and Co were left shattered last campaign when, after reaching the Lord's final, heavy rain stopped a ball being bowled and forced a re-arranged final at Slough.

After a defeat in their opening group match, Wiltshire re-ignited hopes of returning to the home of cricket with an impressive win at Hertfordshire on Sunday, but Shardlow admits no-one is daring to think about the potential prize.

He said: "First of all we need to win our next two games to even qualify for the knock-out stage but at the moment we are taking it one game at a time.

"Captain Richard Bedbrook has told everyone to forget about any potential Lord's appearance.

"We got there last season and didn't even get the chance to play there so I don't think anyone even dares to think about this time round.

"Individually I am sure what happened last season will install more desire to actually play at Lord's this time round but no-one is going to admit that."

The opening defeat to Oxfordshire has put Wiltshire up against it from the start, but with tomorrow's match against Bucks followed by a clash with in-form Cambridgeshire, Shardlow insists there is all to play for.

He said: "If we can win the next two then we will be through and will have a lot to look forward to.

"If we don't win on Sunday then the one-day season will already be over and that would be a huge shame at this time of the season.

"We have proved in the past we are a one-day side and with the youngsters we have we have an exciting future ahead."

Wiltshire name an unchanged squad for Sunday with Chippenham teenager Liam Dawson hoping to add to his crucial 48 he scored last weekend.

Two seasons ago, Wiltshire's Lord's dreams were ended at the semi-final stage before the rain ruined last year's push.
