REVENGE will be on Goatacre's mind tomorrow as they look to roll back the years in the village knock-out cup second round.
Visitors Lechlade knocked them out in the third round last year but for many of Goatacre's players there are better memories of past successes.
Sixteen years ago the North Wiltshire village lifted the trophy in a dream Lord's final against Dunstall, from East Staffordshire, and two years previous they also reached the Lord's final only for a wash-out forcing the final to Beckenham the following day, which they also won.
Kevin Iles and John Wilkins are the only remaining members from the triumphant 1990 side but that is not where the connections stop.
Skipper Sam Parish said: "Everyone in Goatacre has great memories of this cup. As well as the couple who played in Lord's we have sons and relatives in the team now of players who played then.
"With our history it is a competition we really want to play well in. There is a long way to go before you get to the business end of it but we are confident we can progress.
"When we were drawn against Lechlade we were all very pleased because we know we let ourselves down against them last time and this is our chance for revenge.
"We didn't play well at all against them last year and deserved to lose but hopefully we can give a better account of ourselves this time."
After finishing runners-up in the West of England Glos/Wilts Division One last season, Goatacre have suffered a disastrous start to this campaign.
Narrowly missing out on last season's title, Goatacre would have been hoping to clinch the championship this time round but two defeats in two matches has put them on the back foot.
Goatacre entertain Westbury tomorrow in their their third league outing and Parish is confident his side have it in them to raise their game.
He said: "In the first game against Warminster we batted well and bowled badly and in last week's defeat to Swindon it went the other way.
"If we can do the two things well at once then I am sure we will be okay. It is all about confidence, last season we were winning games without thinking about it.
"All we need is a win to kick us off and hopefully that will come tomorrow and then that will give us confidence for the village cup the next day."
