SOUTH Wilts teenager James Hayward returns to the Wiltshire squad for Sunday's crunch Minor Counties Knock-Out cup tie at Cambridgeshire.

The talented youngster missed the win against Buckinghamshire last weekend due to university commitments but replaces Jon Chandler, who reverts to 12th man.

After a disappointing defeat to Oxfordshire in their first group match, Wiltshire have picked up wins against Bucks and Hertfordshire to keep their chances of a semi-final spot alive.

With a Lord's final potentially just two games away, Wiltshire know Sunday's clash could be vital with Cambridgeshire starting as favourites with two wins out of two.

Having had last season's Lord's final washed out, Wiltshire will be desperate to avenge the memories but manager Neil Shardlow knows they are up against it if they want another trip to Lord's.

He said: "Cambridgeshire will be tough but at least we have something to play for. It would have been a very long trip had we lost last weekend.

"Even if we win on Sunday we have to rely on results going our way next week but I would fancy our chances then."

Wiltshire have built themselves a reputation over the last few years for being a one-day side with a final and a semi-final appearance in the last two years.

"We are quite a lively one-day side," said Shardlow. "Perhaps with a three-day county match we are less inclined to enjoy a bit of banter but we do enjoy ourselves in one-day games.

"We have a job to do but we have more chance if we are enjoying our cricket. One thing is for sure our batting needs to improve."
