HAVING composed themselves after last weekend’s bizarre defeat to Winsley, Nationwide take on relegated Lechlade in Wilts One tomorrow in search of an immediate response.
Captain Joe Perkins, who was left hugely frustrated by the ruling which left Winsley to chase a modest 86 in 32 overs, insists he has his side mentally prepared for the arrival of Lechlade at Nationwide Pavilion.
"It will be a huge test for our team,” he said. "We won't be thinking of the fact Lechlade were relegated last year but more on the fact they were good enough to win the league the season before that."
Experienced batsmen Mark Sheppard and Mick Harris return to the 11 for the fixture, having turned out for the second team last weekend, and will add a solidarity to the middle order, whilst opening strike bowler Steve Lewis is unavailable so Chris Trewhella is given a chance to shine.
“Meanwhile, Darren Milne will assume glove duty behind the stumps after regular keeper Simon Marlow suffered an injury at the club’s net session on Tuesday.
Elsewhere, in Glos/Wilts One Swindon travel to Stroud looking for a similar performance to their demolition of Marshfield last Saturday. Malmesbury host Purton in Wilts One. With both sides desperate for early points, this could be a crucial win for either side come the end of the campaign.
