WILTSHIRE’S unbeaten run in the MCCA Trophy group matches came to an end as they lost to Devon by five wickets at Trowbridge on Sunday.
In a match reduced to 45 overs due to rain, Devon won the toss and asked Wiltshire to bat in conditions not conducive to high scoring.
Wiltshire were soon in trouble, losing their first three wickets for 16 runs before Henry Langford (32) and Steve Bullen (25) put on 49 for the fourth wicket, with Wiltshire eventually posting 135 for eight wickets.
Devon’s innings started in a similar way to Wiltshire’s as they stumbled to 20-4, thanks to significant contributions from opening bowlers Alex Senneck (1-9) and Richard Bedbrook (3-25).
David Lye (47 not out) and Josh Bess (25) put on 51 for the fifth wicket, and when Bess was out Sandy Allen (25 not out) joined Lye to see Devon home by five wickets with more than three overs to spare.
