CHIPPENHAM'S quest for a top-three finish took a severe blow at the weekend following a shock seven-wicket loss to bottom-of-the-table Lansdown.
After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Chippenham struggled to score runs on their travels as only five of the XI reached double figures - Azeem Ghumman top-scored with 29 from 58 balls - on their way to 138 all out in the 42nd over.
In reply, 59 not out from Jeremy Lawlor - including four 4s and five 6s - saw Lansdown reach their target in the 27th over having lost just three wickets.
Meanwhile, Potterne bounce back from consecutive defeats to claim a narrow victory at home to Bridgwater.
Opener Wesley Coulentianos knocked 66 from 53 balls to help Potterne reach 306-8, and the hosts appeared to be in total control with Bridgwater at 26-3.
But an outstanding 164 from 136 balls by wicketkeeper-batsman Alex Eckland dragged the visitors back into the game. Chris Aubrey bowled Eckland to prevent a heroic match-winning impact, and Bridgwater ended up falling 19 runs short while nine down.
In WEPL Premier Two Gloucestershire-Wiltshire, Goatacre beat Corsham by 86 runs in one of two Wiltshire derbies to remain level on points with Frocester at the top.
Captain Ed Wilkins notched 63 on Goatacre's way to 229 all out, and an all-around effort from the hosts' bowling attack helped the title contenders bowl Corsham out for 143.
In the other all-Wiltshire clash, 48 not out from Hamish Walker helped Marshfield clinch a 25-run win at home to Burbage & Easton Royal. Marshfield posted 178 all out, but in reply Burbage continued to lose regular wickets on their way to being bowled out for 153.
Warminster lost by 37 runs to Hatherly & Reddings despite a century from Gareth Schreuder. Hatherly posted 306-6 after Lesego Senokwane struck 101, and Adam Forbes replied with 63 prior to Schreuder's 120. But after the pair were dismissed, Warminster's innings lost momentum and they were bowled out for 269.
In WEPL Wiltshire, Royal Wootton Bassett's title party had to be postponed following a 96-run defeat to Swindon. The other three home teams - Corsham twos, Trowbridge, and Westbury & District - also tasted victory.
