RAYCHEM C started 2014 in the best way possible with a 37-23 victory over Abbey Meads C in Division Three of the Swindon & District Netball League Without a match since early December, Raychem started slowly but built a four-goal lead by half-time with the defensive trio of Michele Tyler, Lauren Hewitt and Kelly Rowe dominating the Abbey Meads attack.
The Raychem shooters burst into life in the third quarter and pinpoint accuracy from Sally Angell and Alex Anderson, and terrific circle feeding by Jenna Hawkins and Emma Trimby, saw them move into an eight-goal lead.
Coach Danni Bateman was not present at the fixture due to the fact she had gone into labour and the Raychem dedicated their victory to the newest addition to the club’s family.
Elsewhere, Raychem A enjoyed a convincing 71-36 win over Nationwide B in Division One.
In Division Two, Raychem’s B side called on experienced defender Michele Tyler from the C team for their clash against Burmah A and a nasty shoulder injury to Zoe Hawkins meant dynamic mid-courter Kelly Rowe also had to take to the court as they slipped to a 44-24 defeat. Raychem D lost by 11 goals to Moredon C in Division Three.
Meanwhile, the Raychem Regional team have their first game of 2014 on Saturday, January 22 when they take on Weston in South West Regional Division Two.
