DESPITE taking their British Team Championships quarter-final to the wire, Swindon CSC could not overhaul Hull in their clash at the Oasis on Sunday.
After heavy thunder storms and hail held up the first gate, Swindon fell behind to a Hull side including double British champion Andy Angell and Adam Stephenson, the presence of whom made their task even trickier.
The first half was marred by a handful of silly mistakes and ended with the visitors nine up and looking out of sight.
After the break, Swindon roared back into the contest, concentratingon getting points on the board and chipping away at Hull’s lead.
The plan worked and, though they never gained the lead going into the last race, Swindon were just four behind, meaning a maximum would force a race-off.
However, on the unfancied outside gates, and with Angell on grid one, try as they may the pairing of Steve Harris and Rob Hunt couldn’t find a way past.
Swindon CSC wishes the injured Hull rider all the best for his hand injury sustained in the meeting.
