Two Swindon boys are among the 14 players selected by GB Hockey Inline for the British 12 years and under team going to the south of France for an international tournament at Easter.
Zach Dolphin, 11, and Jack Townsend, 12, are both members of the Great Britain academy training squad from which the team was selected for the tournament, being held between March 22 and 24 in Montpellier.
Dolphin, a netminder, has been playing roller hockey for just three years. He joined the Swindon Junior Ice Hockey team in the Cubs under 10s team. He has played as netminder and defence, and now plays forward for the Jaguars under 12s team.
Alongside ice hockey, he started playing forward roller hockey three years ago for the Cobras, before being asked to go in goal for Guildford Storm. He is a pupil at Greendown School.
Townsend is a forward in the Inline Southern League for Team Fury. He has been playing inline puck hockey for three seasons.
He has been playing skater hockey since he was seven, representing Swindon Flames, with whom last year he was selected as a Dream Team player in both the Southern League and at the national club finals.
He lives in Eldene and goes to Dorcan Technical College and, in addition to representing the school at football, athletics, basketball and cross-country, plays football for Greenmeadow Youth FC.
