WHAT a different kettle of fish it has been this week, with catch weights soaring from the week before.

BCA angler Mick Greening had a day to remember when he and his fellow club members descended on the Thames at Lechlade for their weekly match.

Greening drew a noted peg on the main river and after a biteless hour, fishing the inside on the waggler he baited his size 16 hook with a double red maggot and an open-ended feeder tied to 5lb line.

For the next four hours the tip kept pulling round and Mick accumulated a match-winning bag of 85lb.

But what surprised most was that half that weight was carp ranging from 3lb-10lb, and the rest was bream up to 5lb.

Second was Mick Flynn with 6-2-0, third John Jordan with 6-0-0, and fourth Sid Webb with 5-0-0.

On Saturday, with the weather 10 degrees warmer catches were good for the 13 who fished the Ridgeway Open.

Again the blue section did well with three 50lb plus weights.

Elick Payne made the most of a bad peg to win with 85lb ahead of Jason Gooch (65lb) and Mick O'Brien (55lb).

Mark Betridge managed 30lb for blue section and Richard Strange took the white section with 32lb.

Gooch, still fresh from Saturday's runner-up spot, won the latest round of the Rolfs Winter League with 250lb caught on the bread using the feeder.

With a section win from Chris Timms (33lb) and a section second from Chris Telling (60lb) took victory.

Rolf's Team Gold captain John Bennett filled second spot with 121-4-0 fishing the pole and corn, feeder and bread.

On the team front, Reading-based Spro lead with 60 points with Rolf's Team Gold on 59 and Gooch's team on 57.
