ELITE gymnasts from Swindon's Esprit club dominated proceedings at the National Duets and Trio Championships in Burton-on-Trent.

The event brought together the country's top gymnasts to compete in pairs or in groups of three, working in synchronised and complimentary routines.

In the under 10 duet, recently crowned under nine British champion Gabriela Caruso teamed up with clubmate Freya Wilcock to take gold with an impressive score of 8.330.

They were followed by teammates Tayshan Dowe and Ellie Morse, who won silver with 6.900, making it a one-two for the Stratton-based club.

The under 12 duet witnessed an exciting tussle for top spot, with Esprit's Hannah Curtis and Great Britain squad member Alicia Veveris taking a brilliant silver with 7.600.

The junior duet saw Esprit's British Championship gold medal winners Jade Faulkner and Laura Halford win silver with 10.433 in another close-fought contest.

The two Great Britain stars were narrowly beaten by City of Canterbury gymnasts Kezi Gore and Joanna Matcham, who scored 11.433.

The result was made even more impressive by Halford stepping up an age group to partner junior Jade.

Esprit also captured gold in the under 10s trios, Caruso, Morse and Wilcock performing a stunning routine to score 10.167.

The junior trios saw Halford step up in age again to join Faulkner and Micia Falaki.

They too came away with a gold with an impressive 10.167, securing the title ahead of the trio from City of Canterbury (8.983).

Club chairman Mark Hows said: "It is difficult to put into words just how well the girls have done for Swindon and their club, yet again competing and winning at the highest level.

"Congratulations must go to the girls and of course the exceptional coaching team who teach them, especially Deb Hows, the head of rhythmic coaching at Esprit.

"They all continue to be an inspiration for the young athletes at the club."
