NICK Brodie will today be unveiled as Oxford's cox for the 154th University Boat Race as he bids to put a hat-trick of disappointments behind him.

The 21-year-old, pictured above, from Shrivenham, is Oxford president this time round but today's announcement will see him given a chance to make up for last year's defeat on the river.

In traditional fashion, Brodie will offer a challenge to Cambridge president Dan O'Shaughnessy for the two University Boat Race clubs to race on the famous Tideway course in three weeks time, before the crews are announced.

After almost steering his crew to one of the biggest upsets in University Boat Race history last year, Brodie vowed to return for one final assault on bitter rivals Cambridge despite already graduating.

His election as president has given him that chance and all his focus is now on finally ending that Boat Race hoodoo.

Brodie's first setback happened two years ago, when he was dropped as Oxford cox on the eve of the race only to see his replacement lead the Dark Blues to victory.

To make matters worse he experienced defeat in the reserve race before again being on the losing side, this time in last year's main event.

The geography graduate though is relishing the extra presidential duties this year and believes his wait for victory will finally end.

He said: "I remember saying to you guys last year that I wanted to make up for last year's defeat by coming back this year. I am really excited by what is happening here though and I think we have something to look forward to."
