CROQUET: Swindon Croquet Club's first home match in the South West Federation League was a resounding 5-0 win over Bear of Rodborough.

Of the five games, four finished inside the time limit. The only game that went to time was the doubles.

John Airey and Diana Trott Swindon took an early lead which they held on to win +8 from Norman Gooch and Bruno Pacini.

In the morning singles game, Swindon's Ian Megaw came under pressure, trailing Michael Poole. but with returning form in the second half, Megaw put together a couple of good breaks to overhaul Poole to win +8.

With two wins, Swindon were in a strong position, only needing to win one of the three afternoon games for the match.

The win came quickly, Megaw dismissing Pacini in the shortest game of the match +23.

Trott kept the pace going, jumping into the lead and was never challenged in beating Gooch +20.

Airey completed the whitewash, beating Poole +6.
