Cricklade-based Jamie Fry headed one of the top classes on offer at the BSJA Area 42 (Wiltshire) show jumping competition, which took place despite a late loss of venue.
The show had been scheduled to run at Larkhill but organisers were told the venue would not be available due to Army commitments just a few days before the date.
Fry was the winner of the Welsh Masters young horse qualifier, which leads to a final at the Welsh Masters at the David Broome Event Centre in August.
His winning ride was the five-year- old Holstein stallion Contec, a 16.2hh bay he describes as "a genuine and very nice horse".
Fry recently finished third in a Royal Bath and West open qualifier on his top ride Larissa, a nine-year-old mare, and also jumped her at the Royal Windsor Horse Show last week.
Little Coxwell-based young rider Katherine Pick came close to a double at the Area 42 show at a site near junction 18 of the M4. She first headed the Foxhunter on her 17hh bay mare Lotus Elise, beating Lechlade-based eventer Chris King.
She was then runner-up in the 1.10m Open on the nine-year-old, who she bought from international show jumper Andy Austin.
Dauntsey's Helen James won two of the four classes on offer at West Wilts Equestrian Centre's senior BSJA show jumping competition at Holt.
Helen, who is a member of the Kennet Vale Riding Club, topped both the Discovery class and Newcomers and 1.10m combined class on All Done II.
She has ridden the 16.1hh dun gelding, now eight, for the past four years and produced him herself.
Helen, who has evented at four star level in the past, also rides All Done II in British Eventing competitions and the pair were fifth at Hambleden one day event at novice level recently.
Fellow event rider Caron Roberts, from Foxhill, led the British Novice class on the seven-year-old mare Pot of Gold and Kerry Grimster continued her winning run with victory in the Discovery on the five year old chestnut All Rise.
Several international riders are among the pre-novice entrants at the Wiltshire College Lackham one-day event, due to take place next Tuesday, where they will be giving their young horses an outing.
Among them will be Malmesbury based Polly Williamson and Kathryn Harris, on event newcomers Stanly and Much Admired, Devizes rider Darrell Scaife, on Trisha Rickards' young horse Aberjet II and Swindon based New Zealanders Tim Rushbridge on Master Full and Chisky, and Neil Spratt on Mandera Wood and If, second at Broadway one day event on his last outing.
