A COVINGHAM man has been warned he could face a jail term after admitting having sex with a 14-year-old girl.
Christopher Harding pleaded guilty to a charge of having sexual activity with a child when he appeared before a judge at Swindon Crown Court.
The 22-year-old, of Verney Close, Covingham, had sex with the youngster on November 1 last year.
He was also accused of raping the girl on the same day but the more serious charge was dropped after he pleaded not guilty. Harding was released on bail on condition he does not have any contact with the victim.
Judge Tom Longbotham told him: "You have pleaded guilty to a serious charge and I am going to adjourn this matter for preparation of a report by probation. I want you clearly to understand that I don't want you to see that as an encouragement as to what the sentence will be. Whoever sentences you will have all options open to them "
He added that Harding must now register as a sex offender.
The case was adjourned to a date to be fixed.
