SWIMMING: Dolphin C, Corsham, Wootton Bassett and Swindon took part in the annual Henry Dennett Diddy Gala for under 14s on Saturday.

The Swindon ASC boys outperformed the girls in all four age groups.

In the 10-year-old boys, Oliver Rigby achieved a first in individual butterfly and frontcrawl with convincing PBs and, joined by teammates Fraser Evans, Matthew Watson and Alex Drew, gained a first in the freestyle relay.

The 11-year-old boys were the best performing group with Bradley Hooper and Morgan Blunt winning all of their individual races and, along with Henry Wakelam and Harrison Vine, also came first in the medley relay.

The 12-year-old boys came second in both their relays with strong performances from Kyle Townsend who also achieved a PB and first place in breaststroke.

Solid performances from James Brogden, Santino Fiore, Laurence Kerrigan and Tim Birkinshaw gave the 13-year-old boys second positions in all of their events.

The Swindon girls had a tougher night with several younger swimmers in their first gala, though showing a good deal of promise.

In the 10-year-old girls Bethany Wood and Sophie Edwards gained a second place and a PB.

The 12-year-old girls found the competition tough but Rosanna Smith, Morgan Manning and Rhiannon Hopkins all achieved PBs.

Hollie Blunt gave the 13-year-old girls their only win in the individual backstroke and joined by teammates Alex Rigby, Lauren Staddon and Charlotte Donaldson achieved second in both relays.

Swindon eventually finished second, eight points behind Dolphin's squad, with Bassett in third.

The evening was marked by a presentation to Mrs Lillian Dennett at her husband's memorial gala.

Mrs D, as she is affectionately known, has decided to retire after 50 years of being involved in the club.

She was presented with a crystal picture frame by club president Julie Bishop.
