BOXING: IRISH boxing legend Steve Collins believes Dennis Wise is the right man' to guide Swindon Town Football Club back to the glory days.
Collins was in Swindon for a sporting dinner and revealed he is good mates with Town's new manager.
He said: "I rang him the other day to congratulate him but the little so and so didn't answer.
"He is a good friend of mine and I know he will do a good job. He will give it his best, like he has everything in his life.
"He is the right man for the job and I think he'll get Swindon back to the glory days but all the fans must now get behind him."
Prior to the M&M Promotions dinner at the Premier Club in Stratton, the former middleweight and supermiddleweight world champ visited Walcot Amateur Boxing Club.
Collins said afterwards: "It looks like a really good boxing club and I see they've had a lot of recent success. I wish them all the best."
A packed house at the Premier Club heard Collins talk about his career and famous fights with the likes of Nigel Benn, Chris Eubank and Mike McCallum When asked about his toughest fight Collins, pictured above with Walcot's Danny Bharj, said: "I'd have to say my toughest fight was against Mike McCallum and the biggest hitter has to be Nigel Benn.
"Nigel Benn is a good friend of mine but I make no secret of the fact that I don't like Chris Eubank. I saw him recently and told him where to go, there's no love lost there I'm afraid."
M&M Promotions' Keith Mayo said: "He's one of the best we have had here that's for sure.
"He was a great entertainer and even did the auction for us."
